This recipe first caught my eye because it seemed simple (not with 50 steps and prep time 2 hours long) but then also... apple, cinnamon & caramel .. on the 1st of October, hello!!

The ingredients are split into 2 sections - the apple filling & the crumb.

I used crisp and tart Granny Smith apples and they're mixed with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon (of course) & a bit of flour, I think this is to help absorb some of the moisture from the apples and make the filling a bit thicker.

The crumb is used both for the base & the crumble topping which is great & the main reason this recipe is so simple! It's a standard crumble concoction - flour, sugars & butter this is pressed into your tray for the base.

Now to tumble (then neatly arrange into some form of layers) your apple filling onto your base & then you simply add oats & cinnamon to transform the mixture into your topping!

Baking time is an hour which is more than enough time for operation clean up (I somehow seemed to use as many bowls / spoons as I could lol).

The kitchen was filled with a warm comforting smell of butter & cinnamon. It was time to drizzle with caramel, yay! Now, you could of course make your own but the recipe said to just buy a good one which is a-okay for me!

Obviously, I couldn't wait too long to try - I waited until it was just still a tiny bit warm & cut into squares - absolute heavenly autumn in a bite! The apples were so soft and base was buttery. It's not too sweet because of the cinnamon & the oats added a really nice crunch to the topping as well.

I will definitely be making again! Thanks Allison for this amazing recipe!
